The « Cochonglier » :

The cochonglier was introduced in Mauritius with the same purpose than the introduction of deer by the Dutch: food for the homesteader.

You can see a few cochongliers at the Vannilla Park, but there are a few hundreds living in the wilderness near the Black River Gorges National Park .

Boar hunting is part of the mauritian folklore, even though it is less practiced nowadays because the hoar population has greatly decreased.
