Mimusops maxima and Labourdonnaisia calophylloides
Along with the ironwood, the elang wood are the only endemic representatives of the family of Sapotaceae. This plant produces important amounts of latex. There are two different trees: the big ones that reach 15 to 20 m in height and the young ones (5 to 6 m).
The wood is brownish-red, and often seeked for cabinet-making. The leaves from the young trees tend to be smaller.
The young tree’s leaves are pink, and their fruit is the size of an olive in the younger trees, and the size of an apple in the bigger ones.
